Preparing for the Session
ExamTools: Required Platform
SANDARC Policy
ExamTools is the ONLY authorized platform for generating and administering exams at SANDARC sessions. No other exam software, printed materials from outside sources, or manually created exams may be used under any circumstances. All exam content — whether delivered on a tablet, computer, or printed via GradeCam — must originate from ExamTools.
Any deviation from this requirement must receive explicit prior written approval from the SANDARC VEC Manager. Sessions conducted outside of ExamTools without that approval will NOT be processed.
ExamTools handles applicant registration, Form 605 generation, exam delivery (tablet, computer, or printed/GradeCam), grading, CSCE generation, and the session archive file that is submitted to SANDARC after the session.
- Team Leads: create your session at exam.tools
- Applicants register and complete their application through HamStudy
ExamTools supports three in-person exam formats:
- Tablet/laptop: applicants log in and take the exam in a browser; preferred method. Tablets locked to the ExamTools site are strongly recommended.
- Printed/GradeCam: exams printed from ExamTools, graded by photographing the answer sheet with the GradeCam feature.
- Hybrid: some applicants use tablets, others use printed exams in the same session.
Test Site Requirements
- The testing environment MUST be quiet and free from distractions. Observers are permitted (see Family Members and Observers), but anyone whose presence disrupts the exam should be asked to step out.
- If applicants completing paperwork after the exam are in the same room as applicants still testing, all post-exam activity MUST be conducted as quietly as possible.
- Suitable locations include schools, libraries, community centers, fire stations, and club meeting rooms.
